Leather Beds Can Be Cool in Summer

5ft Swan Style Leather Bed
The first decent weather of the summer has reminded me that you can sometimes be too hot in bed. This weekend has seen sun and decent weather and staying cool in bed is important for a good night's sleep.

Leather beds are great in the colder months of the year but they can also keep you cool as summer approaches. My favourite bed is a Swan Style Leather Bed.

The Swan Style Bed is reminiscent of a French antique style bed. It is as the top end of the bed market ans exudes luxury. The model of Swan style bed shown above is in black leather and costs around £1,400.

Leather Beds at Pre-VAT Price

Richmond King Size Faux Leather Bed £399.99

The market for leather beds is highly competitive. This competitiveness has been exacerbated by the VAT rise that came into force on 4th January. So far few bed retailers have upped their prices to take account of the rise.

The problem is especially difficult when with price points such as £199.99, £299.99 and £399.99. Passing on the 2.13% increase would for example see the retail price rise to a nonsensical £408.50.

The leather bed shown above is a Time Living Richmond 5ft kingsize faux leather bed. It is a Chesterfield sleigh leather bed. The price is still £399.99 including the VAT increase.

Faux Leather Beds

Kenton Super Kingsize Faux Leather Bed
The UK economy remains in the doldrums and faux leather beds can be an inexpensive option. People buy leather beds for the look of luxury. By definition luxury means expensive. However, there is a lower cost alternative to a genuine leather bed - the faux leather bed. Faux leather beds create almost the same impression as a real leather bed but at much lower prices.

The bed shown above is a Kenton super kingsize faux leather bed costing around £500 in the UK. A similar sized bed made from real leather would cost almost double. Given the pressure on household budgets you can see the advantage of a lower cost alternative.

Leather Beds for Luxury and Style

6ft Super Kingsize Leather Bed
Leather beds make a luxury statement about your bedroom. Real natural leather has a feel and smell that is unique.

Leather is warm and soft. Leather, along with wood and wool, is a natural, organic material. A leather bed says so much about your bedroom and the people that sleep there. It means luxury and good taste.

Leather beds tend to cost more than beds made from other materials. But it is a simple issue; if you want a quality bed, and a good night's sleep, it is worth paying for. The bed illustrated in the main image is a 6ft super kingsize leather bed. It is available in the UK for around £1,600.

Leather beds come in a range of styles and a complete range of sizes from single, to small double, double, king size and super kingsize beds.

The range of leather beds available includes the following styles:

  • Modern
  • Traditional
  • Antique style
  • French sleigh style
  • Italian
  • Scandinavian
  • Chesterfield
Essentially, whatever your personal taste, you should be able to find a leather bed to suite your bedroom.
